The Solitude Development Team (or Devo Team, for the hipsters) offers skiers ages 6 to 13 the chance build skills in a fun and competitive environment. A season-long program, the Devo team aims to create well-rounded athletes who are aware of safety, sportsmanship, mountain etiquette, and teamwork, while helping each member reach his or her full potential through training, education, and fun.
Limited to only 30 members, each participant is guaranteed hands-on instruction from Jeff Handwerk, a level III certified instructor and a level II coach, and his experienced staff. Instruction and training lasts from late November through early April, and includes five races, allowing each member of the team to truly grow as a skier. Areas of instruction include skiing fundamentals, moguls, snow blade skiing, all-mountain free skiing, mountain awareness, safety, and race training.
Members must be linking turns on intermediate runs and be capable of completing turns in a parallel stance. Devo team members must also be able to independently ride chair lifts, and are required to wear an approved (ANSI, Snell, or ISO) ski helmet.
