For over ten years now, Leif Grevle has been the spirit of Solitude’s Snowsports Academy, offering fun and instruction within all disciplines of snowsports.
A Norwegian native, Grevle grew up competing in Nordic and ski jumping events, but then began to race alpine events. He spent eight years racing on the World Cup circuit, and was selected as a member of the 1964 Norwegian Olympic team.
Grevle moved to Colorado in 1967 where he helped a few resorts develop ski school programs. He spent twenty years alone with Vail Associates within a high-profile position.
Intrigued by Solitude’s intimate, European atmosphere, and getting back to the roots of the sport, Grevle left Colorado in 1993 to take over the helm of the then fledgling mountain school at Solitude Mountain Resort. “Solitude reminds me of my home resort in Norway,” said Grevle, “Where skiing is about having fun and enjoying nature.”
And now, the atmosphere at Solitude remains the same, and if not more so, with the guidance and experience of Grevle. Grevle has worked hard to develop the Snowsports Academy into a renowned learning institution, where the importance of fun and play are still stressed within instruction for both children and adults. “Whether you are a powder junkie or a true beginner,” said Grevle, “Everyone can benefit from a lesson where fun is combined with form to build a strong foundation for mountain sports.”
